ATP Fuel Testing & Process

Swift Aviation Services offers ATP fuel testing in compliance with the FIA recommendation and is an advanced method for detecting microbial contamination in jet fuel, which is particularly important for corporate jets. ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) fuel testing is a rapid and accurate method to measure microbial contamination in jet fuel. It works by detecting ATP, the primary energy-carrying molecule found in all living cells, including microorganisms that can contaminate fuel.

Bell Performance’s ATP-By-Filtration test provides on-site testing with accurate and quantitative microbial readings in less than 10 minutes. This allows for real-time decision-making regarding fuel system management, which is crucial in time-sensitive industries like aviation. This pro- active approach can prevent the development of biomass and corrosion damage to fuel storage tanks.

Until recently, little has been effectively communicated regarding the need to maintain a clean fuel system through preventative controls and testing for microbiological contamination and the accumulation of organic waste known as biomass. Scientific evidence reveals microorganisms are less likely to propagate when water is not present.

However, it is a known fact that all jet fuel contains water in varying degrees. This is introduced through multi-fuel pipelines, fuel uplift and fuel ventilation systems. Even when a visible inspection of fuel samples shows no evidence of water, you can rest assured the fuel system is storing water in corners and on ledges that are located away from the sump drains.
